How often is the host file reloaded?

Question:

Can I have newly-edited host file entries take effect immediately?

Answer:

Yes, the resolver, the TCPWARE_DNS process, periodically checks the HOSTS. file for changes and reloads it if the file has been modified.  You can force the resolver to reload the file by stopping and starting the resolver by entering the following commands:

$ NETCU STOP/DNS
$ @TCPWARE:STARTUP_RESOLVER DETACH
