Common Issues for the PMDF-MR, ALL-IN-1, Alpha Combination
Common Issues for the PMDF-MR, ALL-IN-1, Alpha Combination
- The ALL-IN-1 (v3.1) on the Alpha needs to have been installed saying "Yes" to the "will you be connecting to a remote Message Router question". (If you don't say yes, not all of the necessary images get installed/linked -- ALL-IN-1 has to think it's talking to Message Router although it will actually be talking to PMDF-MR.) Such an install of ALL-IN-1 can be a little tricky on a non-clustered Alpha -- let us know if that's the situation you're in and we can provide more details.
-
In a new install of ALL-IN-1 V3.2, you can say "No" to the "will you be connecting to a remote Message Router question", and after you installed ALL-IN-1 3.2, go in as MANAGER and enter A1CONFIG then A1BASE. Set the "Remote mail" field to 1, the "Remote MR" field to 1, and set the "Node" field (if it's not already set) to the name of your own system. Then restart ALL-IN-1 to get the changes to take effect. After restarting ALL-IN-1, you should have an MR$NODE logical defined (it'll be a DECnet object sort of thing), and an OA$MTI_MR_NODE logical defined.
-
When you configure PMDF-MR, and it asks for replacement MR mailbox and a password for that mailbox, those values have to match what ALL-IN-1 thinks its own values are. I.e., going into ALL-IN-1 as the MANAGER and type SM MM DS to see what the "Mailbox Name" is, if it is A1, then you need to tell PMDF-MR A1 as the mailbox name. (The logical OA$MTI_MAILBX should also have this same value.) For the password, what it shows as the "Mailbox Password" on the same screen is what you need to tell PMDF as the password for the A1 (or whatever it's really called) mailbox.
-
Other things to check for whether ALL-IN-1 thinks it can talk to Message Router, are to check in the A1CONFIG A1BASE screen that Remote Mail is set to 1. And check that you have the logicals MR$NODE set (usually to some DECnet type value, e.g., "::"22="") and that OA$MTI_MR_NODE is defined (it probably doesn't matter to what, but set it to your PMDF-MR DECnet node name).
-
Check that you have the MRAXPSHAR logical properly defined as described in the checklist file.
-
Check that there's no fundamental problem with your PMDF/PMDF-MR configuration; a good check is to do PMDF TEST/REWRITE on an address destined for ALL-IN-1. You don't want to see any errors and you do want to see under Submitted address list: that the channel is mrif_a1.
