PMDF-LAN Microsoft Mail Gateway Details

Requirements

VMS Software required:
  • PMDF-MTA
  • PMDF-LAN
  • Network Operating System, for example Pathworks
PC Software to be used by support PC:

  • Gateway configure program INSTALL
  • SMTPPUT.EXE (supplied with PMDF-LAN)
  • SMTPGET.EXE (supplied with PMDF-LAN)
PC software to buy if you don't already have:
  • Microsoft Mail SMTP gateway access for each Post Office, Microsoft part number 068-099-127. This is available from Microsoft and costs around $700.
  • Full function Microsoft Maill Post Office, you may have to upgrade your Windows for Workgroup Post Office with the Microsoft product "Postoffice Upgrade for Microsoft Windows for Workgroups".
  • Microsoft Mail user agent. (WFW, Windows, Windows/NT, DOS)
  • Network Operating System software for each user PC and support PC
Hardware Required:
  • Physical network link between VMS and PC
  • Support PC
  • OpenVMS computer, VAX or Alpha AXP

Example batch file to be run on Support PC

The Support PC would run the batch file shown below.

In the example command procedure the DOS m: device is the network disk that is served up to the support PC's by the network operating system on OpenVMS, and the Post Office files are in the m:\maildata directory. SMTPGET exports messages from the Microsoft Mail Post Office into a flat file for later processing by PMDF. It also runs SMTPPUT to input messages from a flat file generated by PMDF.
