Trailing Dot (.)

Remember to enter the trailing dot (.); otherwise the default domain suffix will be appended. For example, in the sample configuration file, if the reverse name service line had looked like this:

6    IN   PTR  Wittgenstein.Philosophy.Arizona.EDU
                                                  ^ no dot
          

then the reverse name service (gethostbyaddr) for 128.196.23.6 would have returned the following:

  Wittgenstein.Philosophy.Arizona.EDU.23.196.128.IN-ADDR.ARPA
