IPP Printer Query Utility

IPP is a standard protocol for universal printing. One of the many benefits of IPP is that complex printing jobs can be easily executed, such as double-sided printing. The IPP printer query utility, available in MultiNet v4.4 and TCPware v5.5 or later, lets you check the capabilities of your IPP printer or server.

Using the IPP SHOW command provides a quick snapshot of the capabilities that your IPP server supports. There are variants of the IPP SHOW command that will let you ask about specific capabilities and assign the results to DCL symbols for use in command procedures. For instance, you could create a command procedure that checks all the IPP printers, looking for ones that support some combination of capabilities that a user is interested in and then tells the user what queues they can use.

For more information about the options and qualifiers that can be used with the IPP printer query utility, refer to the following documentation: MultiNet TCP/IP for OpenVMS v4.4 Installation & Administrator's Guide (Chapter 16), MultiNet TCP/IP for OpenVMS v4.4 Administrator's Reference Guide (Chapter 1); TCPware for OpenVMS Management Guide (Chapter 15), TCPware for OpenVMS User's Guide (Chapter 5). A detailed description of MultiNet and TCPware IPP features and benefits is located at www.process.com/techsupport/print_primer.doc
