PMDF-FAX consists of a collection of software and hardware components, as depicted in Figure 38-1.

Incoming and outgoing electronic mail is provided by PMDF, and may originate from or be directed to any message source to which PMDF connects. Messages directed to PMDF-FAX as outbound FAXes may be either plain text or PostScript.¹. FAXes received by PMDF-FAX may be output in one of several formats: DDIF, GIF, LN03 sixel, PCL, PostScript, or TIFF.
