1.8 Deinstalling PMDF

When you deinstall PMDF, only the files that are on the distribution kit will be deleted. In other words, the deinstallation process will not remove the PMDF configuration file (/pmdf/table/pmdf.cnf), or any other site-generated files. Therefore, when you reinstall PMDF, you will not need to reconfigure PMDF.

1.8.1 Step-By-Step Deinstallation Instructions

You must be a superuser to deinstall PMDF. If you are not already logged in as root, do so now.2.

To deinstall PMDF, perform the following tasks:

  1. Move to the root directory:

    # cd /

  2. Check which version of PMDF is currently installed. For example,

    # setld -i | grep PMDF
PMDFBASE650 installed PMDF V6.5 Base Product
    PMDFDOC650 installed PMDF V6.5 Documentation
PMDFLAN650 installed PMDF V6.5 LAN Product

  3. Use the setld -d command to deinstall the PMDF subsets. For example,

    # setld -d PMDFLANnnn PMDFDOCnnn PMDFBASEnnn

where nnn is the number (major and minor) of the PMDF release (as shown by the setld -i command in the previous step).

    Note

If you want to deinstall multiple PMDF subsets at the same time, use spaces in the setld command line to separate the subsets.
Do not deinstall the PMDFBASE subset if you want to continue to use PMDFLAN or PMDFDOC. (PMDFBASE needs to be installed to use these subsets.)

Note

2 If you are deinstalling PMDF so that you can upgrade to a later version, then the steps listed above are all that you need to do. However, if you are deinstalling PMDF permanently, and you want to restore native sendmail links, see the description of /pmdf/bin/symlink backout in Section 1.6. You also might want to remove the PMDF cron jobs.
